Jazzhoops 2004 Mock
Draft
by
Johnathan Kendrick |
| |
|
1 |
Orlando
|
Emeka Okafor |
| Magic hope he can be
a Franchise player, or at least Ben Wallace (after arriving in Detroit). |
|
2 |
Charlotte |
Dwight Howard |
| Would have rather had
Okafor but so would the other 28 teams. It’s easier to build your team around
size. |
|
3 |
Chicago |
Luol Deng |
| Not sure what whole
they need to fill. Not sure who will be back. Not sure this is their guy –but he
is smart and dedicated which they hope can rub off. |
|
4 |
Clippers |
S. Livingston |
| They like Ben Gordon
but Livingston size speed and handles are freakish – With key players under
contract for years to come – Clips can wait for leagues tallest pure point guard
to develop. |
|
5 |
Dallas (?) |
Ben Gordon |
| Assuming trade goes
through, pick originally belonged to Washington |
|
6 |
Atlanta |
Andre Iguodala |
| Hopefully the
revolving door of guards will stop. He can score and defend – with a cool
nickname and some wins the question will be can he put fans in the seats and
make Atlanta forget about Dwight Howard. |
|
7 |
Chicago (?) |
Devin Harris |
| Assuming trade goes
through, pick originally belonged to Phoenix. |
|
8 |
Toronto |
P Podkolzine |
| Might have used the
4th pick on him last year. Déjà vu and need for a dominant center won’t let him
slip past. |
|
9 |
Philadelphia |
Andris Biedrins |
| A project, but a big
athletic European who doesn’t mind banging in the middle. |
|
10 |
Cleveland |
Josh Childress |
| LeBron is the center
piece Childress is a do all role player. |
|
11 |
Golden State |
Luke
Jackson |
| Plays many positions
and can get some backup minutes in a few different places. |
|
12 |
Seattle |
Josh Smith |
| He is the best player
left on the board at this point. |
|
13 |
Portland |
Kirk Snyder |
| They need a Shooting
Guard and Snyder is ready to play – maybe even start for the Blazers next year. |
|
14 |
Utah |
Rafael Araujo |
| Jazz take the local
guy – more important they have a player that will come in as one of the
strongest players in the league and could play right away. |
|
15 |
Boston |
Sergei Monya |
| Boston was going to
take Araujo or Monya just depended on who Utah passed on. |
|
16 |
Utah |
K. Humphries |
| Jazz fill another
need with a strong Power Forward will an all around offensive game – could be
the steal of the draft. |
|
17 |
Atlanta |
Al Jefferson |
| He is not the big HS
power forward they were hoping for – but he does fill a whole. |
|
18 |
New Orleans |
Jameer Nelson |
| Quality leader on a
team that could use another level head – He will allow Davis to play sg. |
|
19 |
Miami |
P J Ramos |
| Miami has a good core
developing – only one piece left and that at center. With a young team and
almost no depth at center Ramos could see some time early. |
|
20 |
Denver |
David Harrison |
| He is local and big.
Camby is not going anywhere next year – but with his career hammered with injury
– insurance in the middle is a must. |
|
21 |
Utah |
JR Smith |
| Smith had 2 of his
best workouts for the Jazz. His strengths fit the system and the system covers
his weaknesses. With Pavlovic gone, Jazz have room for a third rookie – and in
time Smith could pay huge dividends. |
|
22 |
Portland |
S Telfair |
| Sebastian Telfair –
he is not even in the league yet and he is all the coach can talk about. |
|
23 |
Portland |
A. Varejao |
| Portland hopes to
move SAR before the season starts – Varejao can work into backup minutes at pf. |
|
24 |
Boston |
Robert Swift |
| And everyone thought
he would go 15 or 25. Swift is a draft oddity – Boston gambles. |
|
25 |
Boston |
Jackson Vroman |
| Vroman has impressed
many as a center and may be able to move into PF. Not the best player on the
board but hopefully Vroman and or Swift will pan out. |
|
26 |
Sacramento |
Dorell Wright |
| Young, but when he is
ready, The kings will be ready for him to take Doug Christy’s spot. |
|
27 |
L.A. Lakers |
V. Khryapa |
| Who knows whats going
on in LA – but if they are building around Kobe – last thing they need is a
shooter. |
|
28 |
San Antonio |
Kevin Martin |
| Again a highly
regarded player slips to the Spurs – They are fairly deep at sg – but it always
works out for San Antonio doesn’t it? |
| 29 |
Minnesota |
Forfeit |
| Almost done paying
for Joe Smith. |
| 30 |
Indiana |
A. Vujacic |
| He is 6’6” and can
play either pg or sg. They may need both. |
| |
