Jazzhoops mock draft
2002 Jazzhoops.net Mock Draft
By Johnathan Kendrick
As always The Mock Draft does not take in to consideration any trades that are rumored or have not been made.
1 Houston Yao Ming
Houston needs a center, Yao Ming is 7’5”, mobile, and shot 76% from the field the last tournament he was in.
2 Chicago “Jay” Williams
Some one might actually want to remind him he isn’t a Bull –yet.
3 Warriors Mike Dunleavy
GS is stacked at Forward but you can’t pass up Dunleavy – especially if they may need his dad to coach.
4 Memphis Drew Gooden
This gives Memphis a tall powerful front line.
5 Denver Dajuan Wagner
Denver needs a lot of things – this gives them 2 – Scoring and a PG.
6 Cleveland Nickoloz Tskitishvili
Despite what they might say the Cavs are gunning for the worst record and the #1 pick next year – drafting a project this year will help that cause.
7 New York Chris Wilcox
The Knicks need size – Wilcox is big and mobile which should fit in to NY’s plans – all he needs now is an untradable contract and he will fit perfect.
8 L.A. Clippers Nene Hilario
The clips will try to move Odom for a center – Nene will fill the hole at PF.
9 Phoenix Suns Jared Jefferies
Jefferies may be more suited for the SF but Phoenix  will try to develop him into a 4 in a very fast paced offense.
10 Miami Heat Qyntel Woods
Paving the way for an Eddie Jones trade.
11 Washington Caron Butler
Another protégée for MJ.
12 L.A. Clippers Amare Stoudamire
What’s not to fit – young, lots of potential, and more raw athleticism then pure skills.
13 Milwaukee Melvin Ely
PF is a real problem in Milwaukee – this may be the quickest guy to develop at the 4.
14 Indiana Curtis Borchardt
Indiana went along way to shore up the Center position last year but still needing some help will consider Borchardt a steal at 14. The Bruno Sundov experiment in indiana is over.
15 Houston Bostjan Nachbar
Don’t look now but Houston is the latest stop on the international player bandwagon. Rice is hurting them at the 3. This is the other glaring need for the Rockets.
16 Philadelphia Kareem Rush
76ers add some outside touch and go with the best player avilable
17 Washington Dan Dickau
The Wiz loved Alaxander - That should give you a clue how much they want Dickau.
18 Orlando Jiri Welsch
Welsch is a 6'7"combo guard with a great shooting touch.
19 Utah Marcus Haislip
If Lopez is going to study from Stockton – Malone is going to want a student as well.
20 Toronto Frank Williams
The Raps are not going too resign Childs and need a steady backup point guard.
21 Portland Rod Gizzard
He is a tall athletic SF that can learn from pip and maybe even make Bonzi tradable
22 Phoenix Dan Gadzuric
They need mobility in the center – scoring optional
23 Detroit John Salmons
A player that can play 3 positions will generally always fill some holes.
24 New Jersey Juan Dixon
NJ needs some backup at 1 and 2 - here you get both in one shot
25 Denver Nenad Kristic
Fills the gaping hole in the middle – Or at least will someday. Nenad is 18 6’11” and still developing.
26 San Antonio Mladen Sekularac
If going foreign works once – why not try again. Plus they need a guy with outside touch to play the 2/3.
27 L.A. Lakers Carlos Boozer
Never hurts to add a guy with power. The most they may need out of Boozer is 10 min a night.
28 Sacramento Jamal Sampson
Kings surprise everyone and draft an American player – from California no less.
