Jazzhoops 2003 Mock
draft
by
Johnathan Kendrick |
| |
|
1 |
Cleveland
|
LeBron James
6-8
245 PG/SG |
| –The Cavs
have already said they expect LeBron to be running the point when
the season starts. He is the only guy they worked out. They had his
Jersey with them on draft night. He is the one local hero that could
save the franchise. |
|
2 |
Detroit |
Darko Milicic
7-1
253 PF |
| –The
Pistons and Carmelo broke off their workout. The Pistons are betting
on Darko becoming the next Euro star – possibly with more moves then
Dirk. |
|
3 |
Denver |
C. Anthony
6-7 234 SF |
| –Easy
pick for Denver. Carmelo should be rookie of the year. He has risen
to the top in every level he played at. |
|
4 |
Toronto |
Chris Bosh
6-11 210 PF |
| –The
Alvin Williams experiment lives to see another day/year. Bosh is
tall and skinny and isn’t going to move people out of his way, but
in the East – you don’t have to. |
|
5 |
Miami |
T.J. Ford
6-0 162 PG |
| –They
need just about everything. Size is probably more important then a
point guard. However a good point guard and a strong leader will be
too much for the Heat to pass |
|
6 |
Clippers |
D Wade 6-5
212 SG |
| –Makes
losing Maggette to the open market a little easier – or at least it
should – until about the time Wade hits the open market too. |
|
7 |
Chicago |
M Pietrus
6-6 200 SG/SF |
| – By now
the Bulls have drafted all positions hoping one will turn out to be
someone they can build a franchise on. |
|
8 |
Milwaukee |
Chris Kaman
7-0 255 C |
| –
Desperate for some help in the middle – some rebounding and some
scoring won’t hurt. |
|
9 |
New York |
Maciej Lampe
7-0 240 PF |
| –
New York needs big men. Lampe is Big, mobile, young and been
impressive in workouts. |
|
10 |
Washington |
Kirk Hinrich 6-4 190 PG |
| –
New coach Eddie Jordan works well with big smart point guards who
give everything to win – and this one can shoot. |
|
11 |
G.
State |
Reece Gaines 6-6 185 PG/SG |
| – If you
lose a young tall PG who can score quickly- don’t blow up the system
draft a young, tall PG who can score quickly. |
|
12 |
Seattle |
Mike Sweetney 6-8 260 PF |
| –
Sonics have some outside Shooters – They need a PG and Size.
Sweetney is the best on the board that fits either bill. |
|
13 |
Memphis |
Nick Collison
6-10 255 PF |
| -
Probably not the player they were hoping would slide – but he will
feel a need and they won’t have to wait for him to develop. |
|
14 |
Seattle
|
Luke Ridnour
6-2 175 PG |
| - Feels a
terrible need they have for a PG and they keep the fan base in
neighboring Oregon as they take the best PG to come out of an Oregon
school since Gary Payton. |
|
15 |
Orlando |
Leandrinho Barbosa
6-3 190 PG |
| -
When no one left stands out, A solid player feeling a hole is better
then a gamble. |
|
16 |
Boston |
David West 6-9 232 PF |
| – Celtics
haven’t had a post presence since McHale. |
|
17 |
Phoenix |
Zarko Caparkaba 6-11 230 SF/PF
|
| – The
Suns Drafted better then anyone last year, And Marion was a great
find as well. Zarko can turn the forward spots into a 3 man rotation
and give some good minutes in the middle as well. |
|
18 |
New Orleans |
Brian Cook 6-10 240 PF |
| –
He is a different player then P.J. Brown, but he fits the Hornets
system better then any other big man that’s left. |
|
19 |
Utah |
Jarvis Hayes
6-7 220 SG/SF |
| – The
Jazz will have to turn to the Free agent market to pick up a big
man. With one SG on the roster Hayes is too good to pass up. |
|
20 |
Boston |
Marcus Banks 6-1 200 PG |
| – Boston
needs a point guard badly. Banks is a good leader and aggressive.
With the revolving door of PG in Boston, Celts hope Banks is money.
(Sorry about that last line) |
|
21 |
Atlanta |
Aleksandar Pavlovic
6-7 207 SG/SF |
| –
Not that any spot in the lineup is solid but Pavlovic is a shooter
and the SF spot appears to be up for grabs. |
|
22 |
New Jersey |
Zoran Planinic 6-8 195 PG/SG
|
| – If Kidd
stays – Shooting guard. If Kidd goes- Point Guard. |
|
23 |
Portland |
Sofoklis Schortsianitis
6-10 314 PF/C |
| – He is
big (maybe too big – that’s why he slides so far) full of potential
and he won’t learn English in time to be poisoned by Rasheed
Wallace. |
|
24 |
L.A. Lakers |
Boris Diaw
6-9 201 PG/SG |
| – A
backcourt of Bryant And Diaw would be very hard to penetrate or at
times even move the ball. Yet together they should be able to beat
almost any trap consistently. |
|
25 |
Detroit |
Travis Hansen 6-6 200 SG |
| – This
may be the pick that knocks Delfino out of the first round. The fact
is Detroit doesn’t seem anxious to replace Jon Barry and above all
GM Joe Dumars was a Bad Boy and anyone who watched BYU knows Hansen
fits the bill. |
|
26 |
Minnesota |
Ndudi Ebi 6-9 202 SF/PF |
| – Wolves
have waited a long time for this – and the fans will have to wait
longer. Could turn in to an impressive frontcourt… but not this
year. |
|
27 |
Memphis |
Travis Outlaw 6-9 190 SF |
| – Not
going to beat Collinson out of any playing time right away. Brown is
a good coach and West is a top GM, if they develop Outlaw right – it
could patch the wound of trading the #2 pick for Otis Thorpe. |
|
28 |
San Antonio |
Zaur Pachulia
6-11 260 PF/C |
| –
Won’t replace the Admiral right away, but no big man this late will.
|
|
29 |
Dallas |
Malick Badiane 6-11 234 PF/C
|
| –What the
Mavs need simply won’t be found in the draft – let alone at #29.
Badiane is raw but talented and very young. It will probably be 2
years before he plays in the NBA. |
