Karl Malone had 17 points, on 6-7 shooting, with 11 rebounds,
4 assists and two steals, to end the Grizzlies 5-game home winning
streak. The Jazz treed the Grizzlies early in the first quarter,
limiting them to only 11 points and 17% shooting. They never looked
back, as the Jazz cleared the bench in the 4th quarter.

Players start to
look like their coach
by Stef Siepel
"You've got to go over there and play and
see if you're tough enough."
The quote says it all and it would probably make
more sense skipping the introduction rather than
continuing it. But
just to verify everyone's suspicions; yes, that is a
quote from Jazz coach Jerry
Sloan who is
always preaching toughness and defense. Every time,
all the players have to prove they are tough enough,
according to Sloan's philosophy. And he didn't read
that philosophy in a book, nor did he learn it from
another coach. He formed that philosophy himself, as
a player.

Malone should get interested
12/22
Karl Malone, whose vivid imagination has
turned a handful of critics into a legion, misses the point. |
Malone-Sloan Showdown Is No Biggie

So, Karl and Jerry had a spat the other
day at Jazz practice. A showdown. A confrontation.

Ostertag Enjoying His Finest Hour
12/22
Greg Ostertag is tired of talking about
his kidney surgery. Which is strange, because nobody is talking
about it.
Handed a ready-made excuse to lie around all summer, to loaf
through training camp, and to sleepwalk through his eighth NBA
season, the Jazz center instead has reminded his team how unique
his skills are, and how much they need him. |
Jazz No Dumbbells in Weight Training
12/22
Coach Jerry Sloan played 11 seasons in the
NBA, but it could have been more. "I am positive my career would
have lasted longer and I would have had fewer injuries," Sloan
said, if NBA teams had weight-training specialists like they do
today.

Ostertag comes up big in return to home state
12/21
The last time Greg Ostertag visited
here, it was to give a gift.
A kidney.
Ostertag underwent transplant surgery this past summer in
Dallas to donate the organ to his diabetes-stricken sister, Amy
Hall.
Friday night, his present was to the Jazz.

Battling the Mavericks was the main event

DALLAS -- I'll be home for Christmas.
Malone moans ringing hollow
12/21
Recently, I wrote a column giving Karl Malone
complete step-by-step instructions on how to win back the good
will and support of fans if he wanted to avoid being remembered
as a complaining, ungrateful grouch after his career ends.
